Drawing and painting most of her life, Bird Burns particularly enjoys direct painting, mostly in watercolor, on location along the coast of Maine.
Her education and training includes a Bachelor of Design degree from the University of Michigan, College of Architecture and Design; and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ringling School of Art and Design. She has studied with many well known artists, including Edgar Whitney, AWS; Joseph Santoro, ANA, AWS; Betty Lou Schlemm, DF, AWS; and Wolf Kahn, N.A.
"Love of color, patterns, and atmosphere inspires me to paint. I present my interpretation of realism by feeling the color and movement of the subject as it interacts with its surroundings, and with my own feelings," Burns explains.
An article by Burns was published in Pallette Talk magazine, volume 70.
Winner of awards in many local, regional and some national exhibitions, she has been an active participant in numerous art organizations in Maine, North Carolina, and Florida, and now in Maine she is a member of Union of Maine
Visual Artists, and the Center for Maine Contemporary Art. .
Bird now resides permanently in Maine. She finds that the four seasons inspire
her to create a variety of works in both realistic and abstract form. .
