Lauralee Clayton of Lincolnville studied art at Wells College and in Mainz, Gennany. She was early interested in painting and when in high school, illustrated the class yearbook. During the time in the 1970s when she and her husband lived in Connecticut she discovered watercolors and began a lifelong adventure with the transparent medium. Surrounded by five children, her favorite place to paint was the kitchen table.
A member of the Clinton Art League, Guilford Art Society and the Madison Art Group, she won several prizes in exhibits and country fairs. She studied watercolor with Connecticut artists DeWitt Brouard, Lou Bonamarte and Charles De Carlo of Monhegan and New Haven; and taught children's painting at the Madison Art School, several summers under Robert Brackman.
After moving to Maine in 1978 she joined Stell and Shevis's weekly art group, fmding within its members lasting friendships, painting pleasure and inspiration. "In summertime on Thursdays, we go from one beautiful place to another to paint, " she says. "The Shevises are our guidirig mentors and enduring friends."
Last year one of Lauralee' s Belted Galloway watercolors was chosen for the annual poster for the Aldennere Farm art show. Her work is represented in private' collections in Maine, New England, North Carolina and Bangkok.
