The Nine Lively Ladies will open their next exhibition of paintings, drawings, prints and constructions, “Spring,” at the Garage Gallery of the Eastern Tire and Auto Service, 70 Park Street in Rockland, on Friday, April 17.
“Spring” is a favorite theme for artists the world over. Daffodils, apple blossoms, blue skies, romance, and little lambs gamboling over the fields come immediately to mind. But, don’t imagine that “Spring” conjures up only one set of ideas among the “Nine Livelies.” Their imaginations are as lively as the name of their group suggests and the exhibition will definitely reflect as many expressions of the word “spring” as there are “Ladies” to express them. Visitors might, for instance, find a bed “spring” sculpture or a drawing of a frog “springing” into view. But, whatever flight of fancy takes these nine artists, “Spring” will have something to please everyone.
The Nine Lively Ladies: Lois Anne, Nancy Fitzgerald, and Deborah Winship from Rockland; Bird Burns, Stell Shevis, and Jean Ulshoefer from Camden; Pat Farmer from Cushing; Lauralee Clayton from Lincolnville; and Edith LaRoche from Searsmont are all residents of Knox and Lincoln counties, who have been painting together once a week for many years. They have organized three exhibitions a year at Eastern Tire since 200?.
Old and new friends, and all art lovers, are invited to join the artists for a bite of this and a sip of that, in a celebration of “Spring” at an opening reception in the Garage Gallery from 5:30 to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 17.
